3 Golf Grips, Explained

Your golfing grip is the only real contact you have with your club. It's important to retain a solid, but not-to-tight grip on the club so as to swing a good shot. A good grip can provide you a consistent, proper swing, while a bad grip can ruin almost each and every shot. You want to depend on skill rather than the odd bit of luck, so it's important to 'get a grip' when training or enjoying your golf game.

There are 3 primary styles of grips: the famous Vardon grip, interlocking grip, and the baseball grip.

The Vardon grip, or overlapping grip, is the most commonly used grip used by many experts. With this particular grip, the small finger overlaps the groove between your index finger and center finger of your left hand, or vice versa if you're left handed. This can be a great grip for golfers with strong hands simply because it utilizes a fewer amount of fingers and stops you from using an excessive amount of one's personal power!

The interlocking grip is perfect for you personally if your a beginner or if your hands and forearms are not too strong. The pinkie finger of your right hand 'interlocks' using the forefinger of your left hand (or right, if you're left-handed). Make sure to practice your swing before using this one, because it can reduce your swing power if you do not understand how to make use of it.

The baseball grip is really a simple grip also great for beginners. All 10 fingers are lined up, one hand on top of the other, to carry the club (like a baseball bat). This grip gives a strong sense of control over the club. It is also great for older golfers with arthritis or other types of joint discomfort.
